Fast of Tisha b’Av – 9th of AV
Israel, Colombia, Taiwan, Russia, China
On the 9th of Av (August 7th) a fast commences. It is known as a day of morning for the Jewish people and a day related to tragedy. What are the chances that on this day the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed twice, not to mention the negative report given by the 10 out of twelve spies as well as other recent tragedies in history directly involving the Jewish people.
Today as we approach this same day, Israel has once again been attacked by rockets from the Gaza strip after capturing the head of the Islamic Jihad in the city of Jenin in the West Bank of Israel. Globally speaking this day is harrowing to say the least as the wold’s economy is on the brink of collapse, the food crisis is worsening and in countries like Colombia the government is making a formal switch from democracy to Communism.
China is swarming Taiwan militarily and with sanctions, Russia continues to deny countries they deme unfriendly fertilizer and food of which it is one the world’s top exporters and China has teamed up to do the same. This day represents a breaking point not just in the history of the Jewish people but around the world. So what do we as believers do? How do we react? What is our position?
To know the answer to these questions we need to know our reality, who we are. We are born from above, from the third heaven, seated with Yeshua at the right hand of the Father, meaning our reality is not of this world but of heaven. So what is the reality of heaven? No sickness, fear, worry, death etc. So the question is are we manifesting His kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven? Do we see this moment as a tragedy or an opportunity? Traditionally, historically, and Biblically the 9th of Av is a time of mourning, but in our new reality, what is the truth?
“This is what the LORD Almighty says: “The fasts of the fourth, fifth, seventh and tenth months will become joyful and glad occasions and happy festivals for Judah” (Zechariah 8:19). Av is the fifth month, and as born again believers our birthright is that this day of fasting will be a day of feasting knowing who we are in Christ and Him in us. No matter the circumstances and situations of the world we are to be a light in the darkness and shine brightest when everything else is getting darker. It is time to bring our heavenly reality to the earth and show the world what true mature sons and daughters of God (John 17) are capable of. May this traditional day of fasting and mourning be reversed and become a day of celebration for transforming a day of mourning into rejoicing for the glory of God and salvation around the globe! Adonai bless you and keep you!
