Sivan: Reaping Through Obedience

If Sivan is the blurry window of time we are looking through, then the characteristics of this month according to Scripture are the soap and water to make clear what to expect this month and how to take action in obedience. Often times we have ears to hear, but not the faith and trust in God to move in the confidence of His promises. Let’s not miss out on the supernatural being our natural this Sivan, and the Word coming to fruition in our own lives.

As we start this new Biblical month, remind yourself how you would hate the feeling of knowing you had been given a command by God only to dodge it, and looking back on such moments wishing you had the opportunity again. Seize the moment and give Yahweh your trust. He is trusting us to trust Him to see it come to pass, and you are the willing vessel!

From Helpless to Harvester

The meaning of Sivan is “Harvest” or “month of the harvest.” Exodus 23:16 calls it “Hag HaKatzir,” The Festival of the Harvest — identifying the feast with the agricultural season. The Book of Numbers 28:26 refers to it as “Hag HaBikkurim,” the Festival of First Fruits, which specifies the time to offer first fruits of the harvest. Often times we feel we have nothing to harvest in our lives, and are remiss to give our first fruits offering because we may be in exceptionally hard financial times and see no reason to give so little unto God or think it an unwise financial decision. Or perhaps you have a lot but don’t want to give unto God, not remembering it is He who gave us the gift to produce wealth. Either way, it is in these times that God shows us that He is our helper, which allows us to go from helpless to harvester. Just like during the time Elijah ran for safety from King Ahab after prophesying a drought over the land, he fled with nothing, and miraculously God sent him ravens each day with bread and meat (1 Kings 17:7-24). But what Elijah did directly after his time in hiding is what God is calling us into today.

God sent Elijah from the Ravine of Kerith to Zarephath in the region of Sidon where he was to meet a woman who would feed him and house him, but when he arrived the woman was about to have her last meal with her son, ready to die soon after. It was Elijah’s turn to return the favor of the Lord in power and love just as God had done for him in the ravine. The flour and oil, which was to be her and her son’s last, never ran out and even overflowed while Elijah stayed with them, and what Elijah had learned in his waiting in the secret place became life and a major blessing to this woman and her son. Elijah went from helpless to harvester at the behest of Almighty God. As we approach Shavuot on May 21st, marking the Feast of First Fruits in Israel when the first fruits of the harvest were brought before God (Exodus 23:16, Numbers 28:26, Exodus 34:22, Leviticus 23:16), we are being called like Elijah to go from the hidden place where God provides, to now allow God in us to do so for others as He leads. No matter your circumstance or situation in this moment, it is a time of preparation, trusting in Him, as well as being enabled to give by grace the blessings He has and is giving to you to others by grace as well.

Logic Vs Faith, Natural Vs Supernatural

The great men and women of faith before our time throughout Scripture and henceforth up until today did not and do not operate by the logic of this world, but that of heaven. They are not people who rely on the natural rules, institutions, and culturally appropriate blueprints that shape this world but rather the supernatural ones of heaven of which we have now become citizens and inheritors.

It sounds simple, and it is, but if we miss just one essential practical step, such a life will always be out of reach. As we approach Shavuot (Pentecost), when Israel surrounded Mount Sinai and Moses received the Ten Commandments, as well as the 120 men and women receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit, one was because they were forced there by God and the other was out of obedience.

God kept His promise to His people to deliver them after 400 years of exile, and the other group obeyed His call to wait and receive.

The practical step is simply, “But seek FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). Many hear, but when it comes to seeking out through diligent action and daily habit, the fruit we all wish for and which is promised is there but out of reach. Action is required, and without seeking His kingdom and righteousness we are doomed to continue cycles of the past. To know the Kingdom we must know the King, and to understand and yearn to operate in the fullness of righteousness we must know the fruit of the Spirit which is,

“But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23).

This is our starter kit upon which our naturally supernatural lives begin and upon which the Logic of Heaven begins to replace the logic of this world. It is precisely what Yahweh was teaching Israel in the desert and the great reward received by the 120 in the upper room in Jerusalem, the Holy Spirit and Fire. This Sivan is the time to remember this practical step and implement it fully in order to enter into the fullness of God’s blueprint for your life in this time and season and the rest still to come.

Theomim (The Twins)

The tribe of Sivan is Zebulun, and just as Zebulun relied on Issachar to understand the times and seasons, Issachar would have known by looking at the stars that the constellation this month is Theomim (The Twins). The constellation of the twins reminds us of many things that have happened before, and will also happen to a greater extent in the times we are living in now. One such thing is a reminder of the two tablets on which YHWH wrote the Ten Commandments, which will be celebrated starting the night of May 21st, Shavuot, along with the 120 receiving the Holy Spirit in the Upper Room in Jerusalem. While the first tablet had instructions regarding honoring God and our parents, the other tablet was in regards to what not to do to the people around us. Two different sets of instructions, but they only work when they are together just like the oneness of the 120 men and women in the upper room, the first time in Scripture when men and women are counted together (Acts 1:15-26). Two people from one flesh with different gifts and talents that share a common bond like Zebulun and Issachar are far stronger together than apart.

This is true of every believer. Many people, one body, one Bride knit together by one Holy Spirit. We are all unique and wonderfully made, yet all saved and unified by the same blood of Yeshua and the gift of the Holy Spirit. It is the picture of husband and wife, two becoming one flesh. It is the story of Ruth and Boaz, a Jew and a gentile who became grafted in. It is Joshua and Caleb who gave the good report, David and Jonathan, Paul and Silas, the two witnesses, always two by two. It is the perfect picture of the Malachi 4:5-6 generation, the fathers and sons working together as one. “For where two or three are gathered in My name [meeting together as My followers], I am there among them” (Matthew 18:20). Why don’t we go walk in twos and threes as the Holy Spirit leads with the King of kings and behold the divine appointments Elohim conceives? That’s what Yeshua told them to do, so doesn’t that mean it applies to us too? May the great King bring you both closer to Himself this month, but also bring others that adore Him closer to you and you to them as well.

Priests and Kings

When Yeshua came there was one who paved the way for Him, a priest, John the Baptist, who paved the way for the coming of the King.

After Yeshua’s death and resurrection the two offices became one, and Yeshua became both our priest and King forever after the order of Melchizedek (Psalm 110:4, Hebrews 5:5, 6:20). This is how He is calling us to operate now, as both priests and kings, in the power and dominion of the Kingdom in the same way He sent the seventy, two by two. There is power in two like the bond between Ruth and Naomi, Joshua and Caleb, David and Jonathan, Paul and Silas, and so on. Enough is enough of petty division, now is the time to align with the times. While the world is trying to separate us from one another, the Father is saying come together, I Am looking for a family! The days of separation are a construct of the world, and the time of the remnant bride has come who throws off the yoke of tradition and the structures of man that separate us from the will of the Father and His kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.

This generation is like the army of Zebulun about whom Scripture tells us “could draw up in battle formation with all kinds of weapons of war, men with an undivided heart.” We have the strongest weapons of warfare in the universe, and our hearts do not waver at the sight of the enemy, because we know that Yahweh Nissi (the Lord our Banner) fights for us and with us. An army divided is conquered, but an army united conquers. We are the latter. A new wave of witnesses of Yeshua is being sent out two by two into the nations operating in the power of the Kingdom, sparking a tsunami of salvation the likes of which the world has never seen. The sons and daughters of the Most High that all creation has been yearning for are being activated and answering the call in every nation. They are nameless and faceless ones, but when you see them, you see Yeshua in them. Answer the call mighty people of Yahweh! The army is being mobilized and you don’t want to miss the train.

Jezebel Decentralized Has No Power

In the days running up to Shavuot after Yeshua’s resurrection, He appeared to more than 500 people before ascending to the right hand of the Father (1 Corinthians 15:6). Meeting with them in their houses, on the road, at His own grave, and speaking to them the mysteries of Scripture that reveal Himself as the Messiah, but not once is it mentioned that He met with them in the Synagogue or a designated place of worship. That is not to say He shunned such places as He Himself preached, taught, and performed miracles, signs, and wonders in such places as was the case before His resurrection, but He was meeting with them at their tables, sharing bread where they ate with their families and friends on a regular basis.

In the global body of Yeshua, the most persecuted people in Iran, China, Afghanistan, etc., there is no opportunity to gather within churches in a public setting without being killed for their faith, and such practices whether we realize it or not take away the option from Satan and especially Jezebel (Revelation 2:18-29) from bringing control and manipulation, stifling the move of the Holy Spirit, and leading people astray en masse. While we spend an hour or two at church, which is good, at our homes around the table breaking bread with one another (Acts 2:42-47) is where we find the most impactful transformation, activation, and oneness of the Holy Spirit. If Covid has taught us anything, the churches that stayed together and even grew the most were those that continued to visit one another in each other’s homes becoming more family than just acquaintances in the oneness of the Holy Spirit. Such relationships are essential as we are to be less controlled by institutions and what we have all seen in one shape or form when we relegate ourselves to a weekly meeting at the church without coming to know one another intimately as family.

Jezebel is the queen of gossip and assumptions which bring division and hearsay, which is more easily fomented when we don’t know one another intimately, which often happens in the church where oftentimes we do not know a person’s character or have real time to gather in each other’s homes and form true relationships in the presence of God. If and when we neglect this time with each other, the ability of Jezebel to work through coercion and half-truths to break up the family of God is far more likely as many have borne witness to over time. Psalm 133:1 and Hebrews 10:24-25 make it clear the power of gathering together and its necessity, but we must not let such gathering become such that we are simply acquaintances once a week. When the 120 gathered together waiting upon the gift of the Holy Spirit, they had intimate knowledge of one another, each other’s families, struggles, giftings, callings, and destinies both individual and collective in Yahweh which gave them the edge and ability to stand as one in the Holy Spirit as a kingdom family, holding fast for ten days in prayer and worship before the designated day and time of God. In the days leading up to the baptism of the Holy Spirit, Yeshua did just that with all who were present that day and He is calling us afresh and anew in this time and season to do so once again.

As we enter Sivan, the time and season is just as momentous as times past. The Moed (appointed time of God) is upon us and we must respond in kind leaving “what if” behind us and walking in full faith, action, and obedience to the call God has on each of our lives. This is the moment to leave the world’s logic behind, and step into our reality as sons and daughters of Yahweh according to heavenly logic which sees the wisdom of this world as foolishness (1 Corinthians 3:19).

Conclusion

The time and the season are clear now; while the world spews deceptive rhetoric and agendas as always, we are called into the here and now according to God’s calendar. We are being called to the throne room on the winds of the Holy Spirit to know what God is doing and saying to bind and loose on earth what He has already bound and loosed in heaven. Restoration, renovation, and activation are our lot this Sivan, and now is the time to flow in all three. Like the tribe of Zebulun we are being called to bring together the body of Yeshua like the 120 in the upper room, and to use our resources for the glory of God as the Holy Spirit leads. In the hidden and secret place like Elijah in the Ravine of Kerith we are being provided for in supernatural ways by the ravens Yahweh is sending to know and remember He is, and always will be, our provider.

With the now indwelling of the Holy Spirit we have great confidence and assurance in the King of kings and in our ability to go from helpless to harvester for the kingdom of heaven, from sorrow to joy, from fear to boldness and courage in the perfect love and power of God giving by grace which was given by grace to each of us. May this Sivan be unforgettable as you walk it out unhindered by the chains of past failures and sins and launched into this month by the fuel and fire of the Holy Spirit, completely renewed, encased in the armor of God, and laced up in the boots of the Gospel of peace embedded with the love and power of God for all to receive.
