Pray for Tiberias

As we continue praying for the salvation of Israel one city at a time, Tiberias is our focus this week. Tiberias is located on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, and is named after the Roman Emperor Tiberius who was the Emperor of Rome during Yeshua’s ministry, death, and resurrection.

It was by using the boats from Tiberias that the people who had heard the Sermon On The Mount nearby and had eaten the multiplied fish and bread, found Yeshua (John 6:23-24). When they found him after all of their effort, Yeshua spoke to them about how the bread He gave them earlier came directly from the Father, but that He, the true Bread of Life was the only way to eternal life.

It was not far from the shores of Tiberius that one of the greatest and most frightening miracles to the disciples of Yeshua occurred. “And in the fourth watch of the night (3:00-6:00 a.m.) Yeshua came to them, walking on the sea. When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. But immediately He spoke to them, saying, “Take courage, it is I! Do not be afraid!” (Matthew 14:25-27). Hallelujah! It was close to the very same shores that Yeshua told Peter to cast his net just once more and the boat filled almost to sinking with fish (Luke 5:1-11). And it was on a similar boat to Peter’s from where “Yeshua got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was [at once] a great and wonderful calm [a perfect peacefulness]. The men wondered in amazement, saying, “What kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?” (Matthew 8:26-27). Oh if the Galilee could speak what wonders it would tell of the glory of God! The miracles signs and wonders, authority and revelation given there are simply astounding.

Today, Tiberius is a mostly Jewish city, but is also filled with tourists who come to see the ruins of Synagogues that Yeshua would have taught in, to walk the shores of the Sea of Galilee and wade into its waters recounting and re-reading the great number of miracles that He did there. To know that opposite the shores of Tiberius is where Yeshua gave the Sermon on the Mount and fed the 5,000, and to understand that it was just a short walk down the beach to Capernaum where Yeshua lived. The heritage and inheritance of Tiberius and the land surrounding the Sea of Galilee is enormous to say the least. Today, as we remember the great eagerness and great lengths the people went to find Yeshua using ships from Tiberias, and recalling the magnificent wonders that happened there, our prayer is that the people of Tiberias would once again hunger for Yeshua, The Bread of Life, that the Father would place within their hearts an eagerness to run after Him at all costs, and to know him as Lord and Savior. Tiberias is a city of destiny, multiplication, authority, and revelation that was blessed greatly by Yeshua, and will be blessed by Him and we His children once again. We pray that the miracles, signs, and wonders that they beheld would once again become a reality on the shores of the Sea of Galilee and for the Word to go forth to all of the people of Israel unto their very own salvation. May the mantle of Yeshua fall over Tiberias and the glory of God be found there once again! Adonai bless you and keep you!
