How To Pray For Ukraine and Russia

From Heaven Down Not The Other Way Around

It is good that so many people are praying as the war continues in Ukraine, but how we pray is of equal importance. Our immediate prayers are very important as we pray for the safety of people directly affected by the war, for the soldiers, for those besieged in cities and the millions of refugees fleeing for their lives for both natural and supernatural protection and provision. These prayers are being answered in miraculous ways as we have been hearing through countless testimonies of civilians and soldiers alike on both sides. But these are not the prayers, narratives, or sentiments that are dividing the Body of Yeshua over this war.

Whether you believe Russia is the clear bad guy in this war or not is not the point. We can use facts on the ground that news sources give us to pray more specifically like the prayer before about divine protection and provision, but what we must not do is take the opinions from the news and turn them into prayer points. We are not meant to pray from the earthly standpoint but from the heavenly one. Matthew 16:19 makes it clear that everything that has already been bound and loosed in heaven, we have been given the authority from Yeshua to bind and loose here on earth. Mathew 6:10 is also clear about the order saying, “Your kingdom come and will be done on earth as it already is in heaven.” If our prayers are not aligned with what the Father is saying and doing we are simply playing onto the enemies hands and giving a friendly push to an evil agenda. We are meant to be a prophetic generation that is not reactive but proactive in how we pray, and if we follow these simple guidelines we will be doing as we see the Father do and saying what He is saying. If we do not however, our prayers become political, emotional, patriotic, and many other things, but not from the throne room of heaven.

How To Win The War

In this war, many believers have expressed a hate for Russia and the people of Russia, refusing to pray for them as if they too are not also our brothers and sisters in Yeshua, forgetting all the while the incredible prophecies over Russia and the Russian speaking nations including Ukraine of an end times revival breaking out from Russia and the Russian speaking countries to the nations of the world. When we see what is happening from a heavenly perspective, the division being sewed like a seed by the fallen kingdom of darkness is trying to make sure there will be no forgiveness between the Body of Yeshua in Russia, Ukraine, and most western countries. This war is awful from every angle, but instead of adding power to the plans of the enemy by taking sides along national borders and political ideology, we are called as sons and daughters of God to take only the side of God and use the weapons of heaven to reverse the enemy’s evil decrees. But what are these weapons and how should we pray?

If we know the great calling God has over the Russian speaking nations in these end times then our prayers should be for a wave of repentance, forgiveness, and reconciliation amongst one another on both sides of this war, refusing to take up offense against one another. Why? Because these things immediately put out the fires of the enemy and take away all of satan’s power and influence over a situation. The vicious flames of pride, anger, hatred, and division are instantaneously reversed, and what the enemy used for evil is turned into good. So as we pray, we pray not only for a swift conclusion to this war, but that even in the midst of it and when it is over for there to be such a display of perfect love, forgiveness, and reconciliation between Ukrainian and Russian believers that true oneness will spring forth from the Body of Yeshua, a unity that is a catalyst and vessel for the glory of God to fall over the entire region, a love so contagious and pure that every weapon of division and hatred will fail and fall. For this to happen we must all put our heavenly citizenship first, not our natural ones, so that we can see from the throne room perspective the great opportunity for end times revival that will bring countless millions and billions to salvation.

The Spirit of Pharaoh and Herod

If we cannot see beyond the opinions of the media and instead let the thousands of narratives shape how and why we pray, then we are doomed to a vicious cycle of war that seeks to steal, kill, and destroy this end times generation which is actually meant to bring in the last great harvest. Do you think satan does not know the purpose of this generation? The same spirit that led Pharaoh to kill all of the first-born Israeli children in the time of Moses, and the spirit that led Herod to kill all the first-borns two years and younger is the very same spirit that is currently on a global mission to do the same in these end times. But as we are not seeing from the world’s perspective we are able to cry out in agreement with the Father, Yeshua, and the Holy Spirit to put in the hearts of the Russian and Ukrainian people to see one another as Yeshua seems them and for every other believer and non-believer who are plagued by pride, anger, and hatred that acts a blindfold to God’s perfect love. We pray that truly they will feel the perfect love of God for one another, the kind of love that gives us the great need to “Love [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for] our enemies, [make it a practice to] do good to those who hate us, bless and show kindness to those who curse us, and pray for those who mistreat us.” If we have been commanded to do these things for our enemies to bring them into the fold of salvation, then what more for our fellow brothers and sisters in Yeshua whether they are Russian or Ukranian?

Heavenly Strategy

We pray that our fellow citizens of heaven will not be deceived by the forces of this world to be led into the self-serving narratives of governments, organizations, and global alliances who all have their own agendas which do not include seeing the kingdom of God made manifest on earth as it is in heaven. We are about the King’s business and His business is the soul winning business, and it is time to take the battle strategies of Yeshua into this war we are fighting “not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places” (Eph. 6:12). The strategies of God for victory are foolishness to this world, and this gives us a great advantage over our enemies, the same enemies that thought they had won nailing Yeshua to the cross not realizing they had just signed their death sentence. May the enemy be shocked and silenced at the great victory of Adonai that is won in Ukraine and Russia for the glory of God! Adonai bless you and keep you!.
