Pray for Rehovot

City By City Prayer (Rehovot)

This week we are praying for a special city in Israel that was one of the first settlements of the first Aliyah in 1890 established by Polish Jews. Just south of Tel Aviv, and Rishon LeZion sits Rehovot.

The name Rehovot means “wide expanses” and is based on Genesis 26:22 that says, “He moved away from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over that one; so he named it Rehovot (broad places), saying, “For now Adonai has made room for us, and we shall be prosperous in the land.” The original city of Rehovot was in the Negev desert, but the current city is truly its namesake as it is very prosperous in the land, today being known as the “City of Citrus, Culture, and Science”.

It has not been without its conflicts with neighbouring Arab villages and towns, just as was the case with Issac before finally digging the well of Rehovot. It was the last well he dug before going to Beersheva where YHWH spoke to him and he built an altar and dug a well.

Rehovot represents a launching point into one’s destiny, the door into one’s promise just as it was for Issac after leaving Rehovot to Beersheva. Adonai said to him, “I am the God of Abraham your father; Do not be afraid, for I am with you. I will bless and favor you, and multiply your descendants for the sake of My servant Abraham” (Genesis 26:23).

As we pray for the salvation of Rehovot this week let us pray that God’s eternal promise for each person there is accomplished, that whatever plans and schemes of the fallen kingdom of darkness are trying to keep the people of Rehovot from fulfilling their destiny in Adonai are made to be null and void by the blood of Yeshua. Let us pray that Rehovot will be a launching point into all of Israel to see salvation engulf God’s nation for His glory and Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. Adonai bless you and keep you!
