Ashdod: Where the gods bowed to God

As we continue praying for the salvation of Israel city by city, this week we focus on Israel’s 6th largest city and one of the most ancient which was also home to some of the remnant of giants mentioned in the book of Joshua. Settled since 1,700 BC Ashdod was one of the 5 Philistine city states mentioned 13 times in Scripture. Located on the Southwest coast of Israel on the Mediterranean Sea, Ashdod is now home to the largest Morrocan and Karaite Jewish communities in Israel and the largest Georgian Jewish community in the world.

Ashdod is famously the place where the Ark of the Covenant was taken by the Phillistines when they captured it during battle and brought it into the temple of Dagon. God afflicted the people of Ashdod with tumors (1 Samuel 5:1-7) and when on two consecutive days the statue of Dagon fell face down before the Ark. Both before and today Ashdod will become a place where the false gods will bow down to the Most High God, a place where every lie and deception will be removed and brought to its knees before the Way, the Truth, and the Light, Yeshua.

Ashdod is also home to the largest port in Israel making it a strategic hub both in the natural and the Spirit. It is almost completely made up of Jewish immigrants and is 95% Jewish, although 65% are not religiously observant. It is fertile ground for the Gospel to say the least and now is the time to pray for the veil of deception to come down and the true eyes of the people of Ashdod to be opened in the mighty name of Yeshua, and for any iniquity of the past to be washed away by the blood of Yeshua. Let’s press in for the salvation of Ashdod. Adonai bless you and keep you!
