Holon: Worshippers Arise

One of the most interesting and religious communities in all of Israel is part of the city we are praying for this week for the salvation of Israel city by city. The samaritans are spoken about extensively throughout the New Testament and are synonymous with the first evangelist in the form of the Samaritan woman Yeshua met at Jacob’s well in modern day Nablus. Today, this Samaritan community which considers itself separate from the Jewish community is small in numbers but reverent and steadfast in its beliefs. Just south of Tel Aviv, the 10th most populace city in Israel, Holon is only one of two Samaritan communities in Israel and was founded in 1937 on sand dunes 6 kilometers from Tel Aviv.

Now it is the second largest industrial zone in Israel. Holon can also be found in the Bible in Joshua 21:15 where it says, “And Holon with its suburbs, and Debir with its suburbs”. Holon has a storied past and was once the front line of the past conflicts throughout Israel’s history. The only other Samaraitan city is located in Kiryat Luza at the base of Mount Gerezim, the mountain of blessing in Deuteronomy 11:29 with the opposing mountain of cursing being Mount Ebal just opposite Mount Gerezim in the modern day city of Nablus.

In the time of Yeshua, the Samaritans were considered un-kosher and even speaking to a Samaritan or touching a Samaritan would be considered an act that would make you unclean in the eyes of God. Ironically this is the place that Yeshua chose at Jacob’s well to start His ministry (John 4). Even today the Samaritans believe that the only place to worship YHWH is Mount Gerezim while the Jewish people believe that place is Jerusalem. But as we pray for Holon and Kiryat Luza we remember and prophecy over these places the conversation Yeshua had with the Samaritan woman 2000 years ago.

“Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews say that the place where one ought to worship is in Jerusalem [at the temple].” Yeshua replied, “Woman, believe Me, a time is coming [when God’s kingdom comes] when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You [Samaritans] do not know what you worship; we [Jews] do know what we worship, for salvation is from the Jews. But a time is coming and is already here when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit [from the heart, the inner self] and in truth; for the Father seeks such people to be His worshipers. God is spirit [the Source of life, yet invisible to mankind], and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ—the Anointed); when that One comes, He will tell us everything [we need to know].” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you, am He (the Messiah).” (John 4:20-26)

As the heart cry of the Father, Yeshua, and the Holy Spirit reaches a fever pitch for Israel, we remember the people from whence the first evangelists came, and from where the Father decided to express His heart for the raising up of the worshipers in Spirit and in Truth. Now as we pray for the salvation of Holon and Kiryat Luza we stand in agreement that the worshipers of these end times whom the Father is seeking will arise and shine from these cities for the glory of God and the salvation of Israel just as it was so when Yeshua chose the Samaritans to be the catalyst of His ministry that begot the salvation of the world. From the seed which sparked off the salvation of the world may it be once again the outcasts and those deemed unclean that bring about the salvation of Israel, the most unlikely to bring worship in Spirit and Truth to all of Israel.
