Of all the countries and cities in the world Israel and Jerusalem are the most loved and most hated. Its story is ancient, and its promise is continuously being fulfilled. Most don’t know the true story, and fewer still, how many have paid the price to defend its borders. From the shores of Babylon after the destruction of Jerusalem and the exile to a foreign land 2,400 years ago, the Jewish people cried out by the streams of Babylon saying, “If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill, may my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not set Jerusalem above my highest joy.” After the second destruction and exile from Jerusalem, for 2,000 years the Jewish people had always said, see you next year in Jerusalem, constantly hoping for the time when they would return. That became a reality in 1967, when Israel recaptured the Holy City, fighting countless wars since then against overwhelming odds without defeat. Join us in standing with Israel and their ancient capital Jerusalem on this Yom Jerushalayim! Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May they prosper who love you (holy city)!
