Of the three fires that continue to rage on in Northern and Southern California, the “Camp Fire” in Northern California has officially become the most destructive wildfire in California history with a death toll of 23 and 100 missing, destroying over 6,400 homes, 260 businesses and commercial buildings and burned nearly 170 square miles of land. It is currently 20% contained, but winds are set to pick back up tonight. Over 50,000 people in Butte county alone have been told to evacuate. In Southern California, very close to Los Angeles, the Hill and Woolsey Fires continue to burn furiously with the Woolsey fire still 0% contained and the Hill fire now 20% contained. The Woolsey fire has now destroyed over 83,000 acres in Los Angeles and Ventura counties with mandatory evacuations in nearby areas still in effect. The Woolsey fire has reportedly killed 2 people, led to the mandatory evacuation of more than 215,000 residents in Los Angeles county and Topanga, and has still left 20,000 residents in L.A. without power. The Hill fire has almost completely destroyed Malibu and with the winds whipping up to hurricane force winds tonight and tomorrow from the Santa Ana Wind coming over the mountains from the east, firefighters are sending out warnings that things are set to get even worse. It is time to intercede for the state of California for the divine intervention of the Lord that He stop the winds and bring rain to this dry land. Please pray for the safety of the firefighters, who at this point have not slept for over 24 hours, and have been away from their homes and families. Pray that the Lord gives them supernatural endurance, and relief from firefighters further afield. Pray for the families who have lost loved ones and their homes, and for communities to rise up to help those effected, not just in prayer but in material resources, shelter to sleep and food to eat. “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people” (Ephesians 6:18). Please join with us in bringing our petitions to the Lord! California needs our prayers.
