Why is it that we are told to pray for people in authority and power? Many people in the world are disillusioned by politics for a multitude of reasons, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that our leaders are the people that have a great potential to change our lives for the better or worse regarding a broad range of issues. In many nations around the globe, religious freedom is not a reality. To be able to worship the Great I Am without being persecuted, jailed, or killed is a privilege beyond words. As Believers, it is indeed our duty to pray not just for our own nation’s leaders, but for the leaders and authorities of other nations as well, in unity with our brethren around the world so that they will have the freedom to gather together as the Body of Christ to give glory to our Lord and Savior. In 1 Timothy 2:1-2 we are urged that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people, for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. We as the new generation must align with the prophetic times and understand that the Lord will not come again only to judge us as individuals but as nations, and if we are spotted to be praying constantly for our brethren, then it also so for their nations. “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats” ( Matthew 25:31-32). Through prayer we have the power to effect the outcome of elections.
In this light, please partner with us as we pray in unity with our brothers and sisters in Christ for the upcoming presidential elections in Malaysia (May 9th), Venezuela (May 20th), Colombia (May 27th) and Mexico (July 1st). The Body of Messiah in Malaysia have been interceding for six weeks leading up to the presidential election and have heard this verse specifically from the Holy Spirit. “See, I have appointed you this day over the nations and over the kingdoms, to uproot and break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant” (Jeremiah 1:10). As they are currently in the fourth week of intercession, they are praying to “overthrow” the power of darkness and injustice in Malaysia. Starting next Wednesday will begin prayer regarding to “Build” and the last Wednesday, the 9th, will be praying into “Plant.” Just as we all very much appreciate the prayers from others when a loved one is sick, it is also true of the nations of the world as they are all sick in some way. We must stop believing that our bubble of influence only reaches the people close to us, and instead realize that we as co-heirs with Christ have a right and obligation to pray for the nations as they are our inheritance with the Lord.
Every Believer has the same Holy Spirit saying the same thing in every nation, and even when we do not know how to pray we must rely on the Spirit of the Lord to guide us. Rely on the Spirit of God in prayer. This is a wonderful truth: “We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will” (Romans 8:26-27). As the Holy Spirit leads us, know the authority with which you pray as it is Adonai who “Changes times and seasons; He deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to the discerning” (Daniel 2:21). Just as Daniel interceded for Israel, join us as we join with the Remnant in the nations to take back their nations for Yeshua the King. Amen!
