Biblical Cycles, Feasts, Times and Seasons<\/h3>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\n\t\t

One of the most overlooked, but most important things in Scripture is the Biblical timeline<\/em><\/strong> otherwise referred to as the Biblical Calendar<\/strong>. The global Body of Messiah is largely unaware of the fact that the Bible counts the days, months, and years differently than the current calendar system known as the Gregorian Calendar. Down to the very days each calendar sets aside for rest and holidays, each calendar could not be any more different, as well as the fact that the Gregorian Calendar is a solar calendar and the Biblical Calendar is lunisolar.<\/em> So what\u2019s the big deal? Within the Biblical Calendar there are set cycles that Adonai created Himself for very particular reasons with the times and seasons situated in such a way as to be a blessing to us now, and a prophetic blueprint for what is yet to come.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The purpose of understanding Biblical cycles<\/strong> is not to be constrained by the Law, but to understand that as Yeshua came not to abolish the Law but to fulfill it,<\/em><\/strong> that those Biblical cycles never stopped with His death and resurrection despite the current calendar being different today. It also does not mean that we should be religious in observing the Biblical cycles or in celebrating Biblical Holidays, but on the contrary, in the freedom and by the leading of the Holy Spirit.<\/em> If we are to be like the Sons of Issacar who knew the times and seasons and what Israel should do (1 Chronicles 12:32), knowing the basics of the Biblical Calendar is a great start. So what does the Biblical Calendar look like?<\/em><\/strong> Let\u2019s break it down.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\n\t

Believe it or not a Biblical day is different than what we think of as a day today. It is still a 24 hour day, but instead of counting from midnight to midnight, a Biblical day starts when the sun goes down and ends on the following sunset. We see this is in Leviticus 23:32, where the holiday of Yom Kippur is defined as lasting “from evening to evening”<\/em>. This is crucial in understanding the timeline of Yeshua\u2019s death and resurrection,<\/strong> because if we count the days according to our current understanding Scripture does not add up. One day in particular during the week is clearly Adonai\u2019s favorite,<\/em> <\/strong>meaning we should probably know when that is and why. We should also understand that just like when YHWH gave Israel a double portion of food to be able to rest on the seventh day, He still does the same when we are faithful in keeping Shabbat.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

“And by the seventh day Adonai<\/strong> completed His work which He had done, and He rested (ceased) on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. So God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it<\/strong> [as His own, that is, set it apart as holy from other days], because in it He rested from all His work which He had created and done.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Clearly there are 7 days in the Biblical week<\/strong> and judging by this verse Adonai considers this day pretty important. It is His day after all, and even on the calendar most people follow today, Saturday is still the 7th day, so why was it changed to Sunday. The short story is Emperor Constantine of Rome<\/em><\/strong> who established Christianity as the official religion of the Roman Empire was also a Sun worshipper<\/strong> who in 321 A.D. made the day of the sun a day of rest from work for everyone, but if you rested on Saturday you would by considered Judaizing,<\/em> and punished as a heretic,<\/strong> as well as if you celebrated the \u201cJewish\u201d holidays like Pesach (Passover).<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Before that, all believers<\/strong> whether they were converted Jews or people of any religion kept the Sabbath Holy and celebrated the feasts of the Bible,<\/em><\/strong> but once it became punishable by death,<\/em> the story changed, and what we now know as Catholic holidays became the acceptable standard as opposed to the Biblical standard. So why does it matter? Daniel 7:25<\/strong> tells us that the anti-Christ, \u201cWill speak words against the Most High [God] and wear down the saints of the Most High, and he will intend to change the times and the law.\u201d<\/em> To an extent that has already been done as most of the global Body of Messiah no longer recognises the Biblical times and seasons, and satan is always doing his best to pervert what Adonai has made perfect, that includes Biblical cycles.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Biblical Months<\/h4>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

There are 12 Biblical months which initially did not have names and are mentioned throughout Scripture simply as the first month, the second month and so on. It was not until after Israel\u2019s exile in Babylon that different names were given to the months.<\/strong> The first month on the Biblical Calendar started like this. \u201cAdonai said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, \u201cThis month shall be the beginning of months to you; it is to be the first month of the year to you. Tell all the congregation of Israel, \u2018On the tenth [day] of this month they are to take a lamb or young goat for themselves, according to [the size of] the household of which he is the father, a lamb or young goat for each household\u201d (Exodus 12:2-3).<\/em> Thus, the first Biblical month was born so that the people of Israel would forever know when to celebrate the Passover and their miraculous exodus from Egypt.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Each month lasts from new moon to new moon, beginning and ending when the first sliver of the crescent moon can be seen. The last day, also the first day of the next month is called Rosh Chodesh<\/strong> meaning the \u201dhead of the month\u201d<\/em>. Just like the 7th day<\/strong>, the end of the month is also considered a holy day (Numbers 10:10) set apart for Adonai, a joyous occasion. It is both to rest at the end of the month and to receive the blueprint for the upcoming month and to set one month apart from the other. Today we obviously do not offer sacrifices or burnt offerings on this day, but it is a day to gather together to fellowship and worship the Great I Am.<\/strong> <\/em>Oh and don\u2019t forget to blow the shofar on that day either to release a heavenly sound (Psalm 81:3)!
