Elul: Restoration and Breakthrough<\/h2>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\n\t\t

The month of Elul<\/strong> is one of stark contrasts: warfare, submission, and repentance. It may not sound like the best combination, but when you are on God\u2019s side and moving according to His war plan, Elul is a month of restoration and breakthrough. The tribe representing this month is Gad<\/strong>, and it is with the temperament of the Gadites that we are called to step into Elul, but not the idolatrous spirit that made Gad the first tribe to worship false idols in the promised land. It was said of the Gadites who joined David in exile running from King Saul, \u201cCourageous men from the Gadites came over to David in the stronghold in the wilderness, men trained for war, who could handle shield and spear, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and who were swift as gazelles on the mountains\u201d<\/em> (1 Chronicles 12:8). Our posture this Elul is of war, but not in the way the world goes to war in the natural. It is a time to rid ourselves of idols and of repentance, which leaves nothing for the fallen kingdom of darkness to attack us with. As we do so and advance individually and together, taking ground for the Kingdom of God, wherever we go everyone will see us with faces like lions,<\/strong> <\/em>and the enemy will flee while others are set free.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

As we were worshipping together here in Jerusalem and having a time of intercession this week, the Holy Spirit pinpointed the armor of God\u2014not just individually as Ephesians 6<\/strong> puts it, but also to apply it to our families, cities, and countries. As we did so in regard to Israel, the main highlight was repentance on behalf of Israel and especially the idolatry, which has caused such a rift in this country and has grieved the heart of the Father. Jeremiah 3:6-14<\/em><\/strong> has become a roadmap for this time and season, and although there seem to be many successes here, militarily speaking, what is happening socially amongst Israelis and the government is jarring, and the root is idolatry. In your country, the situation may look very different, but repentance is the key to restoration and disarms the fallen kingdom of darkness<\/strong><\/em> immediately, allowing for the breakthrough to come without resistance. May the restoration and breakthrough come like a flood for you this Elul.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Roadmap To Restoration<\/h3>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

One key event in Scripture took place during the month of Elul<\/strong>, which paints a beautiful and sometimes painful picture of how we can go through critical transformation and preparation to personally get clean of all bad habits and sins, not only personally but also in our families, cities, and nations. Ezekiel 8<\/em> begins on the fifth day of Elul with God taking Ezekiel in the Spirit to witness the idolatry of the leaders and people of Jerusalem who had turned their backs on Him to worship false gods. Elohim saw everything, just as He sees everything we do, but instead of doing teshuvah (repentance), Israel continued down the path they knew was wrong. In the end, it led to the deaths or exile of almost all of Israel and the destruction of the city walls and the temple of God. While we have had a string of victories thus far in Israel during this war, our confidence tends to be in our natural military capacity, but it must not keep us as a nation from repenting for the idolatry of the present. Our idols can be elusive at times, but as a nation our military is certainly one of them, which keeps our faith in men and in our strength instead of God. He is the Lord of Battles,<\/strong> mighty in strength, and we must remember this month wherever we are in the world that He is the one who fights our battles on the front line of every battle we face personally and otherwise. Let us be just as diligent in our preparation in the natural as we are in our repentance and becoming who God has called us to be.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Elul is a time of restoration<\/strong> and moving into the man or woman God has created you to be for such a time as this. This begs the question: are there things in your life, old or new habits, that are taking you down a path away from your relationship with The Father, Yeshua, and the Holy Spirit? No matter what you have done, when you repent and turn back to the Father, He is waiting for you with a robe, a ring, and a feast just like the prodigal son (Luke 15:22-24). He is weeping because of your absence at His table and will rejoice at your return, not punish you. As we all go through our process of teshuvah this month,<\/strong> let us also be intentional about reaching out to our neighbors and the ones Abba puts on our hearts to pray for and speak to. Take action, and get excited about getting out of your comfort zone, remembering that the fear you feel telling you not to enter into this new season and become the person God has called you to be is not the fear of the Most High; it is the enemy trying to keep you from releasing the blessing and message Yahweh has put on your heart.<\/em> <\/strong>Let\u2019s make it a point to step on the enemy every time he tries to stand between us and teshuvah (repentance), and the transformation it leads to.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Matthew 6 and the 6th Month<\/h3>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\n\t\t

While Matthew 5 gives the roots of the life of a believer, Matthew 6 provides the water and fertile soil to begin to produce real fruit. How to give to the poor and needy without others knowing and without it being known or recognized, how to pray, and how to fast, which are non-negotiable in the life of a believer, are learned. This month we learn in chapter 6<\/strong>, \u201cWhere your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will also be\u201d<\/em> (Matt. 6:21). So where is your treasure and how do you fast and pray? In the run-up to the Feast of Trumpets, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot, we are faced with an unworldly task that requires the Matthew 6 touch, which can only be achieved with the love of the Father through Yeshua, guided by the Holy Spirit. As we enter into the Biblical calendar preparing for the time of repentance<\/strong> (Yom Kippur) on October 11-12, we are being commanded to go a step further than teshuvah (turning away from our sins and back to Yahweh).<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Matthew 6:14-15 gives the condition for our forgiveness: \u201cFor if you forgive others their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins], your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others [nurturing your hurt and anger with the result that it interferes with your relationship with God], then your Father will not forgive your trespasses.\u201d<\/em> Do not forget this month of Elul or any other month for that matter because it is the key to true forgiveness<\/strong> from the Father for our sins and freedom from the poison and burden of hatred and revenge against others. As for our past sins, we have done terrible things, but with true repentance, all things are forgiven through the blood of Yeshua, and to continue to be burdened by those sins while you have repented and to punish yourself is not from God but becomes a cage designed by the enemy to keep you from fulfilling your destiny in Yahweh. You are a tree of life, a light to the world, and the salt of the earth,<\/em> <\/strong>and the fallen kingdom of darkness wants to fool you into thinking otherwise. Arise and shine, shake yourself from the dust this Elul!<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The Hopeless Enemy<\/h3>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Yahweh sent a man to Jerusalem to initiate and complete its reconstruction after their exile to Babylon, Nehemiah. \u201cSo the wall was completed in 52 days, on the 25th day of Elul.\u201d<\/em> When all our enemies heard about it (the wall), and all the [Gentile] nations around us saw it, they lost their confidence; for they recognized that this work had been accomplished with the help of our God. As the war continues to rage here in Israel, and in every other part of the world in different ways, we too are being called like Nehemiah, with a sword in one hand and a hammer in the other<\/strong> (Nehemiah 4:17-23). It is a reminder for each of us individually, as we protect the sanctity of the temple\u2014being the temple of the Holy Spirit\u2014to force the enemy to lose all hope of gaining access ever again to corrupt it. \u201cSo submit to [the authority of] God, resist the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Notice the order. It does not say resist the devil then submit to God, but the other way around. Focus on the Great I Am,<\/strong> and anything not from Him will be forced out. Once we have this process down, the enemy\u2019s sole purpose becomes trying to keep us from bringing restoration (Yeshua\/salvation) to other people, families, cities, and nations. Our ability to weather any storm, to love and bless our enemies, to live and die every day for Yeshua, is not possible without the King of Glory being first. The rebuilt walls of Jerusalem were evidence to Israel\u2019s enemies that YHWH had forgiven them,<\/strong> they were still His people, and He was with them. He is with you, but unlike the Old Covenant, He is not judging you until the end of the age. This is the age of grace, so if you are in a moment right now where you feel like there are breaches in your walls the enemy is using to infiltrate, causing you to turn away from the Great I Am, now is the opportune time to identify the intruders, kick them out, patch up the holes, and set watchmen on the walls and guardians at the gates 24\/7. With a sword in one hand and a hammer in the other,<\/em> <\/strong>make the enemy flee and repair the breach from whence they came. God is with you and for you! (John 14:18, 20)<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Conclusion<\/h3>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Elul<\/strong> is a strange month because with it God is bringing a restoration that is unlike any restoration that the world speaks of. It is not a restoration of how things used to be in our past, or how things used to be in the history of our countries, even in the best of times. However, it is a restoration according to God\u2019s original intent for you and me,<\/strong><\/em> how He has seen and known us even before we were in our mother\u2019s wombs (Jeremiah 1:5). He is reminding us of who we are in His sight and according to His love and promises through the death and resurrection of Yeshua, not only to become true sons and daughters but also to remind and motivate others to be who God has called them to be. The more we see ourselves through His eyes, the more we see others through His eyes and are empowered by the Holy Spirit<\/strong> to speak life and activation where the enemy seeks to do the opposite.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Just as David saw the Gadites as men with faces like lions, this is how God is calling us to see ourselves and one another this Elul. A fierce and piercing roar is going forth this Elul as lions and lionesses of the kingdom of God<\/strong> come into their true form across the globe, and as you roar from the victory of Yeshua, the Lord of the Breakthrough will go forth just as in the time of King David against the Philistines. \u201cSo David came to Baal-perazim, and he defeated them there, and said, \u2018The Lord has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water.\u2019 So he named that place Baal-perazim (master of breakthroughs). The Philistines abandoned their [pagan] idols there, so David and his men took them away [to be burned]”<\/em> (2 Samuel 5:20-21). Israel was restored, and breakthrough came, and this is what God is calling us to this Elul personally and corporately. Shake off the dust of guilt and shame, put on the full armor of God, weekly repentance as a shield and the word of God as your sword this Elul<\/strong>, and may the fallen kingdom of darkness regret the day it provoked the lamb to become the lion, and may we do it together in the oneness of the Holy Spirit for the glory of God. We are in this together, mighty people of God. Yahweh bless you and keep you!<\/em><\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
