We have officially entered into the first week of the 2nd month of Iyar, the beginning of a month of preparation and anticipating revelation.<\/strong> This Parashah fits perfectly with both the theme of Iyar as well as what it is we are both preparing for and expecting to manifest in our lives individually and in the Body of Messiah as a whole.<\/em><\/strong> We begin in Leviticus 12:1-13:59 the speaks of the laws regarding purification after childbirth and the laws of leprosy. Thus we have the two themes of multiplication and restoration<\/em> that speak directly into the next passages of 2 Kings 4:42-5:19, John 6:8-13 and Matthew 8:1-4.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\n\t

In 2 Kings chapter 4:42-44, Israel is in the middle of a famine and there is very little food to go around. A man brings the prophet Elisha 20 loaves of bread and fresh grain which Elisha tells his servant to give to the men to eat, but the servant replies saying there is not nearly enough for 100 men to eat. Sound familiar? Elisha then says to the servant, \u201cGive them to the men, that they may eat, for thus says Adonai, \u2018They shall eat and have some left.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/strong> And they did. Similarly, although in much greater numbers in John 6, Yeshua multiplied the 5 loaves and 2 fish that the boy had given to feed 5,000 men plus women and children.<\/strong> There are two take aways from these two passages that give us food for thought. The first being the manner in which we give an offering, tithe, or first fruits, and the second is a question. Why would Adonai allow a famine to happen in the first place, and why would Yeshua knowingly lead thousands of people to a secluded place knowing they would be hungry?<\/em> Both sound counterintuitive to the goodness of Adonai at first glance, but is it really?<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The man who gave his first fruits of bread and grain gave what he had knowing it would not be enough to fead everyone,<\/em><\/strong> but he gave what he could from what he had regardless, and similarly the boy who gave the 5 loaves of bread and two fish knew it would not be enough, but gave it from the heart regardless of how many it could feed.<\/strong> In both instances, it was an offering that was found pleasing to Adonai. First Fruits, no matter how small, when given with a full heart unto Adonai is the best seed one can sew. Just as Yeshua said of the poor widow who gave her last two copper pennies as her tithe beside the rich who gave their gifts from their wealth(Luke 21:1-4),<\/em> so too are the examples of the man giving the 20 loaves of bread and the young man giving the 5 loaves of bread and two fish. Such an offering to Elohim both pleases Him to receive it, but also pleases Him to multiply it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

On the other hand, why would YHWH Yi\u2019rei (The Lord Our Provider)<\/strong> let famine and hunger take place or Yeshua lead people to a place where they would be hungry? The same question was posed by the Yeshua\u2019s disciples when they approached the blind man, and they asked Him, \u201cWho sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?\u201d Yeshua answered, \u201cNeither this man nor his parents sinned, but it was so that the works of God might be displayed and illustrated in him\u201d (John 9:2-3).<\/em> Amazing! If we grasp what this means in our everyday lives it will change the world, and did change the world when the apostles and disciples of Yeshua understood it. The famine did not occur and Yeshua did not lead the people to the middle of nowhere so that the people would suffer,<\/strong> but so that people would begin to understand that a time of discomfort or hardship is not a curse, but rather so that the works of God might be displayed and illustrated in that situation. What if we began to see a problem as an opportunity for the goodness of Adonai to be displayed instead of giving credit to the enemy and believing it is a punishment from God?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\n\t
