Every remembrance in God’s Kingdom carries within it an invitation to redemption. The festivals, the fasts, the feasts, and even the seasons of mourning all testify to one unchanging reality: our God is continually restoring what sin has broken and accomplishing His redemptive purposes throughout history.

Even the name Tammuz, borrowed from the Babylonian deity mentioned only once in Scripture (Ezekiel 8:14), serves as a reminder of God’s faithfulness. Rather than erasing Israel’s exile from memory, the Lord allowed the Babylonian names of the months to remain, transforming them into lasting testimonies of His mercy. Every time the name Tammuz is spoken, it quietly reminds us that exile did not have the final word. The God who allowed His people to be disciplined also brought them home. What the enemy intended as a mark of defeat became a memorial of divine restoration.

That is the way of the Kingdom.

God rarely removes every reminder of our past. More often, He redeems it. The scars remain, not to produce shame, but to testify to His healing. Jacob limped after wrestling with God, yet his limp became part of his testimony. Joseph carried the memory of betrayal into Egypt, yet God transformed it into the salvation of nations. Thomas touched the wounds of the risen Messiah, and those very scars became undeniable evidence of the resurrection. Throughout Scripture, redemption does not erase history—it transforms its meaning.

This is precisely what Tammuz teaches us.

At first glance, it appears to be a month defined by failure. Israel fashioned a golden calf while Moses stood in the presence of God. Jerusalem’s walls were breached because the people ignored the warnings of the prophets. Ezekiel witnessed widespread idolatry even within the Temple courts. Everywhere we look, Tammuz seems overshadowed by human weakness.

But Heaven tells another story.

During this same month, Ezekiel beheld the Throne of God. Where man saw defeat, God was preparing redemption. Their confidence in God’s timing began to erode.

Moses had ascended Mount Sinai into the very presence of God. The mountain trembled with fire, thunder, smoke, and glory. The people had witnessed miracles unlike any generation before them. They had walked through the Red Sea on dry ground. They had watched Pharaoh’s army disappear beneath the waters. They had eaten bread from Heaven and drunk water from the rock.

Yet forty days of waiting accomplished what four hundred years of slavery could not.

It exposed what still remained in their hearts.

Exodus tells us that when the people “saw that Moses delayed in coming down from the mountain,” they gathered around Aaron and demanded, “Come, make us gods who will go before us” (Exodus 32:1).

Notice the progression.

They saw the delay.

They focused on what appeared absent rather than on the God who remained present.

Their vision shifted.

And once their vision shifted, their worship followed.
Idolatry is rarely the first sin.
It is usually the final destination of misplaced vision.

The enemy understands this well.

He rarely begins by asking God’s people to deny their faith. Instead, he slowly redirects their attention. He magnifies delays until they become disappointments. He enlarges obstacles until they seem impossible. He whispers that God has forgotten His promises, that His silence means His absence, and that taking matters into our own hands is simply wisdom.

How many golden calves have been built because someone grew tired of waiting?

How many Ishmaels have been born because God’s promise seemed too slow?

How many Sauls have offered unauthorized sacrifices because they could not wait one more hour for Samuel?

How many disciples abandoned hope on Friday because they could not yet see Sunday morning?

The strategy of the adversary has never changed.

If he cannot steal your faith, he will try to exhaust your patience.

If he cannot convince you that God does not exist, he will try to convince you that God is not coming.

If he cannot destroy your calling, he will tempt you to manufacture your own fulfillment.

Counterfeit worship is almost always born from counterfeit urgency.
The Kingdom of God, however, operates very differently.

Throughout Scripture, the Lord consistently works in seasons of waiting. Noah waited while building an ark no one believed was necessary. Abraham waited decades for Isaac. Joseph waited through slavery and imprisonment before ascending to Pharaoh’s court.
