Purim: Our Challenge and Invitation From Adonai
From sundown on the 26th to sundown on the 27th we celebrate Purim, preceded by a day of fasting. Why should we celebrate this feast? Because it is a reminder that even when something like the genocide of the Jewish people had been officially decreed, it did not mean it was just or righteous, and it clearly was not what Adonai wanted. As we find ourselves in a similar situation today in the United States and much of the world, where decrees are being made and laws passed that are simply evil and contrary to the Word of God, are we as the Body of Messiah supposed to simply accept them as fact and move on with our lives? Should the Jewish people have just said screw it “I guess God wants us all dead because an evil man decided to decree a thing treacherously, so I guess we should just let it happen?” Clearly not! Purim is a reminder that when we are all about to face certain judgement, it is not a time to pout, blame others, or get depressed. It is time to fast and pray, just as Esther called for before going to the king with her case against Haman.
We must ask ourselves, why did God allow Haman to make such a decree? Why does Abba Father allow politicians and presidents to make executive orders that mock Him like Goliath on the world stage? Why does Adonai bring us to a moment as a nation to what seems like unavoidable judgement? Perhaps, just like throughout the Bible, He is trying to get our attention on the off chance that we would turn our faith once again to Him, that He, not any man would once again be our hope and joy. How many countless times throughout Scripture has Elohim warned His people time and time again so that they would turn back to Him? How many times have we read those Scriptures, thinking to ourselves, it is so clear! Saying, “Why can’t they see it”, as we shake our heads and scoff in disbelief at their arrogance and ignorance?
Satan is laughing at the division within the Body of Messiah right now. he is blaring the message of fear, confusion, hypocrisy, hate, misdirection, blasphemy, and division on the airwaves of News networks and social media like Goliath who paralysed the army of Israel with fear, convincing them they were doomed to defeat. If it had not been for David, one who actually believed God is who He says He is, perhaps 40 days of paralysis would have ended with defeat. You are being called to be a David in this moment and season. Wake up giant slayers! satan is trying to convince the world that good is evil and evil is good. Clearly a good majority of people, including believers, agree with him. Is that possible? Do you actually believe the evil decrees of the fallen kingdom of darkness that smear the Word of God, and YHWH Himself after professing that Yeshua is your Lord and Savior and believing the Word of God is the absolute Truth? Maybe a shaking is precisely what we need.
This Purim we are being challenged, or rather invited by Adonai. Will we be continue like Esther when she said to Mordechai in Esther 4:11?
“All the king’s servants and the people of the king’s provinces know that for any man or woman who comes to the king to the inner court without being summoned, he has but one law, that he is to be put to death, unless the king holds out to him the golden scepter so that he may live. And as for me, I have not been summoned to come to the king for these [last] thirty days.”
Or will we accept the challenge of Mordechai in the days ahead when he told Esther:
“Do not imagine that you in the king’s palace can escape any more than all the Jews. For if you remain silent at this time, liberation and rescue will arise for the Jews from another place, and you and your father’s house will perish [since you did not help when you had the chance]. And who knows whether you have attained royalty for such a time as this [and for this very purpose]?” (Esther 4:13-14).
What will be our answer this Purim? Remember, the key to feasting is first the fasting. Feasting was not on the Jewish people’s minds at that time, far from it. Survival however, and fear and trembling before Adonai certainly was as they knew only by His grace and mercy would they be saved from certain judgement. Who knows whether or not you have attained royalty as heirs and co-heirs with Yeshua seated at the right hand of the Father (Romans 8:19) for such a time as this? Enough division, let’s agree with what Adonai says is just and righteous, not what the media, presidents and politicians tell us is, as it will not be them we answer to on judgement day. Let us come together before the throne of Almighty God in repentance and with petitions of deliverance so that Adonai may never say to us, “How often I wanted to gather your children together [around Me], as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling” (Matthew 23:37). He is willing, and there is a remnant that is rising up and has refused to bow down to the gods of men. If you are reading this, you are a part of that remnant. It is not too late to get in this race. Now is the time to stand as one body. Adonai bless you and keep you!
